Description
Zoo Med's HydroBalls is an expanded clay terrarium substrate. It can serve as a base layer beneath Zoo Med's Eco Earth coconut fiber substrate or other substrates to form an underground water table in naturalistic terrariums. Adding water creates a natural 'aquifer', boosting humidity for all tropical species. It's perfect for the root growth of live plants in naturalistic terrariums and can be used for filtering the water in a terrarium waterfall. This lightweight clay substrate effectively creates an underground water table when placed under coconut fiber substrate.
To use Zoo Med's HydroBalls, first place them as a base layer in your terrarium, under the coconut fiber substrate or other substrates. Then, add water to create a natural 'aquifer'. This will increase the humidity, which is great for tropical species. If you have live plants in your terrarium, the HydroBalls will provide an excellent environment for root growth. You can also use them for filtering the water in a waterfall. When it comes to maintenance, check the humidity levels regularly. If it gets too dry, add more water. Keep an eye on the plants' health and if they seem to be struggling, the substrate might need to be adjusted. Also, make sure to clean the HydroBalls occasionally to prevent any build - up of debris or harmful substances.
