ANTCUBE – Cork nest 20×20 – standing

This standing ANTCUBE cork nest, sized 20×20, is a great choice for ant enthusiasts. It measures 183 x 160 x 20 mm and is made of fine cork material. It only fits in our ant farms of size L. The cork nest comes with pre - made passages and chambers, making it ideal for various ant species, especially those that nest in (dead) wood. It has an access hole for the ants. Cork is chemically neutral. Its structure stops liquids from getting in and doesn't cause any chemical reactions, so it won't get damaged easily. While too much moisture can lead to rotting over time and reduce the nest's lifespan, cork is highly resistant to rotting, fungi, and mold due to its surface and structure that don't provide a good place for fungi to grow. However, food remains, animal excrements, and other organic substances can encourage mold growth. We suggest mainly keeping ant species from dry regions in this cork nest. But species from humid habitats can also be housed here as rotting isn't a problem for most of them. Many ants from Northern Europe, like Camponotus herculeanus or Formica fusca, live in rotten wood and can also thrive in this nest.

Using this ANTCUBE cork nest is easy. First, place it in our size L ant farm. Then, introduce your ants to the nest through the access hole. When choosing ants, it's best to pick species from dry regions to reduce the risk of rotting. But if you have ants from humid habitats, don't worry, as most of them can handle the environment. Regarding maintenance, keep an eye on the moisture level. Too much moisture can cause long - term rotting. Also, clean out any food remains and animal excrements regularly to prevent mold growth. This will help keep the nest in good condition and extend its lifespan.
